The Blue House

Welcome to the Blue House, a rustic colonial-style residence that offers an exceptional holiday experience on the Seychelles and offers a paradise for dog lovers. Five minutes walk to the local island jetty, about 10 minutes to the beautiful Anse Severe Beach and a short bike ride to all the other beautiful beaches of La Digue.

The Blue House has great character and a patina second to none on La Digue. It stands in a lush, eco-friendly, informal tropical garden (a former coconut and spice plantation) rich in diverse wildlife.

My name is Rita Hinder, a Seychelles national who recently moved to the Seychelles returned after living and working for many years as a nurse and swimming instructor in England. I now live with a beautiful and charming group of 23 rescued dogs and several cats on the island of La Digue.

Speaking of dogs, a special advantage of the Blue House is that you will be joyfully greeted by my family when you return from your beach excursions in the evening. Come and live among these wonderful canine characters. Learn from their behaviour as they interact with each other. Observe their natural way of communicating and watch them play with the cats and each other in a garden paradise of 5,500 m2.

The Blue House is different in many ways from most self-catering accommodation here on La Digue. You will enjoy the ambience of the first floor (approx. 50 m2), which consists of a large bedroom with a double bed in the loft, leading to an airy anteroom with two viewing balconies, one overlooking the front of the garden and the other the back garden with its abundance of lime trees and other fruit trees. Your private bathroom overlooks the lush greenery of the front garden and the colourful red and orange blossoms of the flame trees, which bloom from late November to December. At dawn and dusk, you can hear the delightful whistling of the rare Paradise Flycatcher, found only on La Digue, which feeds on insects that live in the almond and takamaka trees on the property.

You are welcome to use the whole house including the large La Digue-style wooden kitchen and enjoy breakfast on the large veranda overlooking the front garden. You can also visit the orchard and pick the fruits of the season. Make yourself at home, become a part of the Blue House and its dogs and enjoy every moment of your stay.
