"We have managed to strengthen diplomatic relations between our countries by addressing various relevant issues such as maritime security, tourism and fisheries," Frasch told reporters.

President Faure thanked Frasch for her efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Seychelles and Germany during her tenure.

"The state of bilateral relations is excellent and we are confident that this will continue in the future with cooperation in other areas of common interest. Seychelles is very grateful for the strong support that Germany has and continues to provide and we hope that we can continue to count on Germany in meeting some of our development goals," Faure said.

During her meeting with the President, the outgoing Ambassador shared some of her key achievements, particularly in the area of tourism. Seychelles has become a very popular destination for German tourists.
"I am very happy that German tourists are coming in droves and we are now number one in Seychelles," she added.

Germany was the leading market last year with 50,476 visitors to the Seychelles, an archipelago in the western Indian Ocean. According to the latest figures from the Federal Statistical Office, Germany continues to lead with 5,904 visitors since the beginning of 2018.

Frasch also highlighted that she had succeeded in raising awareness at the European Union level of the specificities and methods of cooperation with high income countries like Seychelles.
Seychelles is a high-income country and therefore "we cannot use the same method as in other African countries as far as political dialogue is concerned," Frasch said.

During her mandate, which ends in July, Frasch promoted the idea of sustainable fisheries in the island nation, an industry that is the second largest contributor to the Seychelles economy.
The German ambassador said she was satisfied with her mandate and hoped that her successor would continue her work.
Frasch was accredited in March 2016 and was based in Nairobi, Kenya.
