"Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in June 1976, we have developed strong ties of friendship and strengthened cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels. As a result, the Seychelles have a strong partner and friend in Japan. We are sure that during your term of office you will continue to deepen cooperative relations across different sectors for the mutual benefit of our peoples. We wish you every success during your term as Japan's new Ambassador to the Republic of Seychelles," said President Faure.

During the talks, President Faure and Ambassador Horie discussed existing and potential areas of cooperation in sectors such as maritime safety, tourism, trade, investment, blue economy and capacity building.

Ambassador Horie, for his part, thanked the President for the reception and delivered a special message on behalf of the Emperor of Japan, expressing his country's desire to further develop friendly relations with the Seychelles by opening the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the Seychelles this week under the direction of the Japanese Ambassador, H.E. Ambassador Makoto Tominaga.

The accreditation at the State House was also attended by the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Blue Economy, Ambassador Barry Faure, the Chief Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait, and other Foreign Affairs officials.
